Images of Venus-Jupiter conjunction from around the world

Enjoy a great collection of the recent Venus-Jupiter conjunction from around the world. I am delighted and honoured to have four of my images incuded in this glorious parade. Congratulations again to Thilina Heenatigala and Astronomers Without Borders for the great work!

Venus and Jupiter over the Basilica of Saint John Bosco

This evening the sight of Venus and Jupiter shining together in the twilight sky over the Basilica of Saint John Bosco was simply unforgettable! Click on the image to enlarge it.

The Basilica is located in Castel Nuovo Don Bosco, some 20 km from Turin.

In the picture above my children are waving to the sunset over the Alps ;-)

One of my images used for the NASA video: “The Super Moon of May 2012″

As shown in the NASA‘ s video (click on the image above to watch it), the perigee full Moon in May 2012 will be as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons of 2012. I had the honour to have one of my images included in the NASA‘ s video (see @1:40 of the video).

The video also appears on the NASA web site: HERE and HERE

Moon, Venus and Jupiter over the Avigliana Castle

Shown above is the beautiful conjunction of Moon, Venus and Jupiter taken this evening (February 25, 2012). I captured the trio shining over the ruins of the medieval Avigliana Castle, originally built on 924 a.C., located some 25 km from Turin (Italy).

Crescent Moon and planets parade

Crescent Moon, Venus and Jupiter: what a magnificent parade! Mercury was also visible setting behind the Alps (see it in the close up view on the left of the bell-tower). What else could an astrophotographer ask for? In the image you can see the St. Vito Church (Turin, Italy) and on the left the peak of Monte Viso (mt 3,841).

A super young Moon over the Alps

The Moon is preparing for this week end show when it will join Venus and Jupiter. This evening, I wanted to welcome the very young Moon resembling a Cheshire grin as setting over the Italian Alps. At the time of the shot, the Moon was just 19 hours and 7 minutes old that so far it represents my personal record of “Young Moon gazing”!
