The Harvest Moon meets the Basilica

The image shows the Harvest Moon next to the Basilca of Superga. Rising near the horizon, the Full Moon closest to autumnal equinox looked extremely large and the effect was accentuated by the distance at which the photo has been taken: some 17 kilometres from the Basilica. The church, built in 1731, sits on the highest hill around Turin (at 669 meters is visible from most of the city) and is one of the symbols of the city.

Image taken with Canon Eos 1000d with 150-500 Sigma lens set @ 500m and 1.4x teleconverter

************

  1. Absolutely beautiful, Stefano – Found your red sun with bird on Spaceweather, then looked up your website and other artwork. As you say, you were privileged to capture this.. An unforgettable memory! Lavinda de Rossi

  2. Congratulations, Stefano. It’s a great shot. You have some other images with this basilica, so you have chances of taking this kind of pictures and you do it. Tamas

    • Many thanks Tamas!
The Basilica is on a excellent position indeed and by far my favourite terrestrial target ;-)
      Thanks again
      Stefano

  3. Terrific!!! I can’t say anything else! Complimenti questa foto è davvero bella e ha meritato l’APOD . . . . il 3°.

    Keep up the good job.

    Max

Questa volta sono dovuto andare in mezo ai campi a fare lo scatto…ma come dice il detto: “Only the braves!”

      Grazie ancora
      Stefano
