Despite some clues such as the blueish reflections on our natural satellite (coming form the Christmas decorations that sorround the church below) and on the river Po (that crosses Turin), of course the yesterday night superbright full Moon was not a “Blue Moon“, as it was just the 1st of December and the real Blue Moon will be on the last night of the year. That’s why I like to name this picture: “Not a Blue Moon“.
Long Night Moon is the correct term for the yesterday’s Moon. The term is surely appropriate because these weeks nights are indeed long and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. Furthermore, in this period the full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.
To complete the scene, if you zoom on the top right of the Moon you can see the Pleiades star cluster. Enjoy other Long Night Moon image at: http://ofpink.wordpress.com/moon/.
And now a few words on the artificial lights…..Every year around Christmas time, Turin’s most famous monuments and squares are adorned by fantastic decoration lights, called “Luci d’ Artista“. The blue/violet lights captured in the picture above are mounted around the “Santa Maria del Monte” church that is located on the “Cappuccini” hill that offers a breathtaking view over Turin and the Alps.
